In 2021, as we looked forward to happier and brighter days ahead, we were more than ever reminded that for many the lockdowns and restrictions of the last years haven't just been annoying, but life threatening. The demand for the services of domestic violence charities has increased whilst their ability to help has been hampered by Covid.
With this in mind and inspired by our sisters from Bricket Wood WI, we launched our Safe and Sound project, so that every woman using the Aylesbury women's refuge during Christmas 2021 had a handmade blanket or quilt to take with them into their new life.
We had an incredible response from our members and the wider crafty community who felt they wanted to give something to a woman in need. Our original aim was for 14 blankets, one for each adult resident at the refuge, a target we felt was achievable and we were certain we would have some spares to offer too. When we did out final totting up of blankets in December 2021, we had 60 blankets! We were absolutely amazed at the creativity and generosity of the project contributors and we want to say a big thank you to everyone who helped!
