Founded in 2007 by Sabrina Qureshi, campaigner and former outreach worker, Sabrina was motivated in part by her childhood experiences growing up on a multicultural London housing estate, where violence against women was often treated as normal and unremarkable. She was also inspired by women's movements around the world, including women she met during a visit to Palestine who continued their activism even amid danger and violence. The WI's actively supports Million Women Rise and every WI is encouraged to be present at this London march on 4th March 2023. The NFWI is encouraging members to make their own musical instruments as a tuneful protest.
